As a follow up to my last blog, “A Split Reality,” (which focuses on the negativity of the online world, anime, and the repercussions of losing oneself in these virtual lives) I’d like to now focus on their benefits.
I have always been drawn to video games and the culture all together. The proudest day of my childhood was when I had saved up enough money to buy my own GameCube, and the very first game I’d ever played- at the age of 10- was the Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. For those who understand the video game culture, and are familiar with Nintendo, the Legend of Zelda is arguably one of the best series ever made.
This culture has been a huge part of my life, and has made me into the person I am. Video games and anime allow you to temporarily live another life and learn from these experiences. It would be very surreal and possibly difficult for someone who has never been immersed in this culture to understand what I mean exactly. However, I have to give the credit to the creators of all these series, since it is them who create these people and personalities.
I’d like to show a few of my favorite quotes from past series I’ve seen and played. Take these quotes to heart, they might actually help you:
“You know, Prince Zuko, destiny is a funny thing. You never know how things are going to work out. But if you keep an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will find your own destiny someday.” –Iroh, Avatar the Last Airbender
“Time passes, people move. Like a river’s flow, it never end. A childish mind will turn to noble ambition. Young love will become deep affection. The clear water’s surface reflects growth.
Now listen to the Serenade of water to reflect upon yourself.” –Sheik, Ocarina of Time
“Revenge is like a two-headed snake. While you watch your opponent go down, you get poisoned yourself.” –Aang, Avatar the Last Airbender
“It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If we take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale. Understanding others, the other elements, and the other nations will help you become whole.” –Iroh, Avatar the Last Airbender
“It’s impossible to work hard for something you don’t enjoy.” –Keiko Ayano, Sword Art Online
“If you truly desire greatness, you must first know what makes you weak!” –Erza Scarlet, Fairy Tail
“A person is very strong when he seeks to protect something.” –Akihiko Kayaba, Sword Art Online
“The minute you think of giving up, think of the reason why you held on so long.” –Natsu Dragneel, Fairy Tail
“We all have the right to choose our own future. We should be able to walk the paths that we choose, not the future you’ve decided for us.” –Natsu Dragneel, Fairy Tail
